The SOFA Consortium is proud to announce that Fraunhofer IPA recently became a SOFA Technical Member. Fraunhofer IPA – one of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s largest research institutes– was founded in 1959 and employs nearly 1000 workers. Fraunhofer IPA develops and optimizes solutions for a wide range of different tasks in science and engineering, with more than one third of its budget coming from industrial projects.

Led by Johannes Horsch, the Medical Assistance Systems research group at IPA Fraunhofer is especially working on physics simulation for robotics control. For endovascular procedures, the teams aims at building an autonomous closed-loop control of passive catheters based on deep reinforcement learning.

As a Technical Member, Fraunhofer IPA will help us coordinating the developments, defining and contributing to the technical roadmap.
